Privacy policy. Plain English.
prefrosh.ai is a small independent site that helps students and parents read college odds. This page says what we collect, why, and who sees it.
The short version
- We do not sell your personal information. We don't at the moment. If that ever changes we will update this page first and ask for your permission before it applies to data you've already given us.
- We keep the data we collect so we can improve the site: better odds models, better school data, better features.
- Your essays and application documents are read once to write feedback and are not saved.
- You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.
What we collect
- Account details. Your name and email, and whether you've verified the email. If you sign in with an invite code, the code.
- What you enter. Your GPA, test scores, intended major, school list, saved schools, notes, and other inputs to the odds tools. This is the core of what makes the site useful, and it is stored with your account so it's there when you come back.
- Reviews and messages. Reviews of schools, contact-form messages and feedback you submit. Reviews may be shown publicly under the name you give. We receive contact and feedback messages by email.
- AI questions. When you use an AI feature, the text you send goes to our AI provider (Anthropic) to produce the answer. We log only how many requests an account or device made per day, to enforce limits and watch costs. We don't log the text of your requests.
- Essays and application files. Used once for the feedback you asked for, then discarded. Not stored on our servers.
- Technical data. A sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in (up to a year). For visitors who haven't signed in, we use a scrambled, one-way hash of the network part of your IP address to apply fair-use limits. We don't store the IP address itself.
We don't run advertising trackers, and we don't use the data you enter to build advertising profiles.
How we use it
- To run the site: sign you in, save your list and results, answer your questions.
- To improve the site: studying how the tools are used and how well our estimates match real outcomes, in aggregate, to fix errors and build better features.
- To reply when you write to us, and to prevent abuse.
Who else sees it
- Service providers that run the site for us: Cloudflare (hosting and database), Anthropic (AI answers), and an email provider (sign-in links and message delivery). They process data only to provide those services.
- YouTube, only if you tap play on an embedded video. Then YouTube (Google) loads and may set its own cookies, under its own policy. Nothing loads from YouTube before you tap, other than the video's thumbnail image.
- The law. We may disclose information if required by a valid legal request.
- A change of ownership. If the site is ever sold or merged, your data would move with it, under a policy no weaker than this one.
- We don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Students under 18, and parents
Most of our users are high schoolers. If you're under 13, please don't create an account; ask a parent or guardian to use the site with you. If you're 13 to 17, you should have a parent or guardian's okay. A parent can ask us to see or delete a child's data at any time. If we learn we hold data from a child under 13 without a parent's consent, we'll delete it.
Your choices
- Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion by emailing [email protected]. We'll act on it within 30 days.
- Clear the sign-in cookie any time by signing out or clearing your browser's site data.
- Residents of California and other states with privacy laws have the rights those laws give, including access, deletion and correction. We honor them for everyone.
Deleting your account removes your profile and saved data. Anonymous, aggregated statistics we've already derived from it may remain.
Security and changes
Data is stored with Cloudflare and sent over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't put in anything you wouldn't want on a school website, such as government ID or financial account numbers; we never ask for them. When we change this policy we'll update the date above, and for material changes we'll tell signed-in users.
