How the score works

The score is out of 10 and compares Toledo with every school we rank in kinesiology. It weighs what graduates earn four years out against the same major nationally (35%), the number of graduates in the major (25%, capped), courses the department lists, where counted (20%), the student body's test scores (15%) and research spending (5%; health research money is mostly the medical school's, so it counts for little). Pay is compared after a half adjustment for state price levels (BEA), since many graduates move. A program needs at least 15 graduates a year (or 8, with research spending in the field in the top quarter) and data about the program itself (its own graduates' pay, its course catalog or research in the field) to be ranked; school-wide numbers alone never rank a program. Missing inputs drop out and the rest are reweighted. Scores run 0–10 against the other ranked schools: 8.0+ is a standout program, 6.5+ strong, 4.5+ solid. Schools with the same score share a rank.
